Professional title: Bachelor of Business Informatics

Business Informatics higher education programme trains staff to become the key link between information technology and business operations. The programme combines the knowledge and skills of entrepreneurship, management along with computer sciences and informatics, as we are aware that companies grow the need for professionals who possess not only technical but also wider understanding of management and operations.

With the knowledge gained you will be able to improve business efficiency through the use of information communication technology, you will master system analyses, project management and operation, deployment and maintenance of information systems and electronic commerce, and at the same time provide information security. Tasks delegated to you will be completed economically and socially responsible in terms of marketing and business operations, as you will be equipped with the latest knowledge in the field of marketing, communication, management and business operations.

There will be an option of choosing from additional and in-depth knowledge, since the programme also offers elective courses in the field of information and business sciences.

Business Informatics higher education programme is rated at 180 ECTS credits.

Curriculum

1st YEAR

BUSINESS FOREIGN LANGUAGE 1 (BUSINESS ENGLISH) (7 ECTS)
The course covers a variety of topics and vocabulary from the fields of Information Management for Business, Economics, Business, Administrative and Organisational Sciences. Students will develop self-confidence, to increase motivation for communicating in the target language and developing the ability to form views as precondition for effective communication and they will also develop the ability of transferring acquired knowledge into new entities, thinking about language, analysing, comparing, and synthesizing linguistic and cultural phenomena.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER SCIENCE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (8 ECTS)
Students will learn basic concepts in informatics, computer hardware and software. They will also improve IT literacy; upgrade skills of using standard software (operating system and desktop products); use ICT tools to communicate and exchange data; use ICT equipment, tools and methods, which enable data protection. They will acquire basic skills which enable them better learning of specific areas of computer science and informatics.
INFORMATION SYSTEMS (7 ECTS)
Students will be introduced with information systems (IS) development as a part of organizational system development. They will also learn about information system elements and integration of them. Students will be introduced with trends in usage of information technology to improve organizational effectiveness.
BUSINESS COMMUNICATION (7 ECTS)
Students will learn basics of communication in the business world and with various audiences. Exercise will give them practice and self-confidence in communication. Students will know and understand basic concepts and selected theories in the main fields of business communication and public relations, processes and aims of various kinds, culture and ethics of communication. Students will train in oral and written communication in the written language, and will master various kinds of written communication.
COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKS (8 ECTS)
After passing the exam the student is aware of the difference between analogue and digital signals and the difference between standalone and connected computers and purpose of connecting computers. They will become familiar with various types of networks, relevant key standards and Iso/osi and tcp/ip reference models and their differences. They will also get the knowledge about transmission systems for data transfer over various media, error detection and recovery mechanisms, network topologies, properties of active and passive equipment, virtual private networks and their implementation and devices for wireless network setup and protocols for protecting wireless networks.
BASICS OF MANAGEMENT (8 ECTS)
Students will get knowledge and understanding of the processes within the organization. They will learn how to use and develop methods and techniques for managing and improving the quality of work. They will be able to analyse, synthesize, and flexible use knowledge in practice. They will gain ability to manage organizational change within the organization, capacity to manage organization of active labour and employee training and ability to synthesize knowledge of the various interdisciplinary subjects.
ACCOUNTING (7 ECTS)
This module provides an introductory level orientation to some basic accounting principles and their applications. Part of the focus is on Financial Accounting and part on Cost and Management Accounting. The subject provide an introductory level to financial statements such as Balance Sheets, Income (often referred to as Profit) Statements, and Cash Flow Statements. These financial statements are then analysed through the use of financial ratios. Cost and Management Accounting focuses on the internal activities of a business. Here, approaches to determining the cost of products, services and other activities as a part of business. This focus also covers planning to help in financial decision making process, including break even analysis and other financial ratios.
MARKETING (8 ECTS)
Students will learn the language of marketing used by practicing marketing managers. They will also gain the importance of marketing in a society and it's organizations and the knowledge of basic marketing concepts: market, exchange process, benefit, prices, participants in exchange processes, product, satisfaction.

2nd YEAR

SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (8 ECTS)
Students will learn basic methods and approaches of planning, designing, developing implementing and maintaining of business information systems. They will become familiar with data analysis, process analysis and system development. Students will also upgrade the knowledge and skills in data base management (data modelling) and process modelling techniques.
E-COMMERCE (7 ECTS)
Students will learn concept of and reasons for e-Business, components of e-Technology and principles of e-Business implementation methodology. They will become familiar with characteristics of practical problems in connection with research and introduction of e-Business and with influence of technology of e-Business on organisational changes. Students will upgrade the knowledge about legal and security aspects.
BUSINESS ANALYTICS (8 ECTS)
The goal of the course is to providing general knowledge of business intelligence and full data government cycle, extended with the knowledge and skills for strategic decision-making. Firstly, the business intelligence and business analytics basics will be presented, followed by the goals, objectives, and common problems of their implementation. Focus is given to best practices on business, data and visualization part.
ELECTIVE COURSE 1 (7 ECTS)

DATABASE MANAGEMENT (7 ECTS)
Students will become familiar with the role of computer databases, the process of efficient data organization and management, working with data in the frame of modern databases and database management systems and organizational and human resource elements of modelling and managing databases.
BUSINESS ECONOMICS (7 ECTS)
Students will learn about the subject of economics, environmental economics, types of business systems, business processes and their elements and phases, pricing and profit and indicators and success factors of business activity. They will get ability to use knowledge in practice, to develop critical and self-assessment and ability to identify and exploit opportunities offered in the working and social environment.
PROCESSES OF DECISION-MAKING (8 ECTS)
Students will get familiar with the decision theory foundations and it’s role in the process of complex problems solutions. They will address the difference between the normative theory of decision making, which is based on the rational theory of facts and descriptive theory of decision making which addresses the subjective behavioural aspects. Technological as well as the theoretical foundations of the group decision making and cooperative work as the basic component of the organizational systems will be provided in the frame of the subject.
INFORMATION SECURITY (8 ECTS)
After passing the exam a student is aware of information security basics, security threats and key technologies for providing security and their use, holistic approach, which is required for information systems protection and relevant key standards in the field. The student is later capable of extending his knowledge in the field by studying relevant literature and thus can work independently in the field of information security.

3rd YEAR

BASICS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP (8 ECTS)
Students will learn about the concept of entrepreneurship, basic features and characteristics of the entrepreneur, economic fundamentals of entrepreneurship, creativity and designing development visions, innovation of entrepreneurship, forms of entrepreneurship, business process and opportunities. Students will gain ability to apply knowledge in practice and to establish and maintain cooperative relations to work in teams, organizational and leadership skills in organizations and understanding of individual values and collective value systems.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT (7 ECTS)
The course is intensively engaged in project management and everything around this topic. At work we’ll take a systematic approach to operational project management and try to use as much (software) tools as possible. The students will get familiar with project definition, setting of project’s objectives, determination of the project vectors, defining the project dimensions, impact of changes to the project, project environment, project manager's tasks, work breakdown structure, the importance of project control, project documents, project monitoring, project reporting, setting up meetings and how to conclude the project.
INNOVATIVE MANAGEMENT (8 ECTS)
Students will become familiar with the most contemporary approaches in management that developed as a response to new requirements in the field of governance and leadership. The emphasis is on management of innovation, innovation processes and development of business models while taking into account innovativeness, competitiveness, value creation for customers, social responsibility and ethics.

PRACTICAL TRAINING (9 ECTS)
Students take practical training in the selected company or organization. Students with at least one year of relevant work experience can apply for the recognition of practical training.
THESIS or ELECTIVE COURSE (7 ECTS)
The diploma work is a student's written assignment composed based on rules for writing expert or scientific and research reports. In the task, the student shows the ability of system approach and problem-based treatment of the topic of the diploma work. The student demonstrates the ability of an interdisciplinary approach to dealing with a business problem by applying the knowledge and skills in the field of business informatics and the strength of comprehensive addressing of the study problem.

ELECTIVE COURSES

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES (7 ECTS)
After passing the exam a student is aware of the architecture of modern computer systems and of internal and external components of computer systems and their operation. Students will gain the knowledge about the structure and operation of modern professional components and systems. They will also develop the perception for relationships among quality, quantity, requirements, prices and actual needs in the composition of a computer system.
OPERATING SYSTEMS (7 ECTS)
Students will get the knowledge about the role of operating systems, functions of operating systems, memory management, job and process management and protection and security. Students will be able to understand the role of modern operating systems, their structure and functioning in different environments.
KNOWLEDGE TECHNOLOGIES (7 ECTS)
Students are able to understand the role of knowledge technologies, intelligent systems and artificial intelligence methods in modern information solutions. They will be able to use knowledge technologies in development of information systems. Students will learn about the role of technology, people and artificial intelligence, knowledge base systems and intelligent systems, knowledge representations and intelligent system development.
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (7 ECTS)
Students will understand the multidisciplinary nature as well as the importance, the purpose and possibilities of knowledge management. They will understand the importance of human resources and organizational learning for professional development of individuals and development of organizations. Students will also understand the importance of capturing and codification of knowledge, knowledge transfer and sharing as well as related processes within the organization.
WEB TECHNOLOGIES (7 ECTS)
Students will get knowledge about sound design principles and technical considerations to create, maintain and manage successful Web sites. They will learn how to use an up-to-date tool for development and management of web page and they will also gain hands-on experience in designing, developing maintaining and managing a web page.
LAW FOR COMPUTER SCIENTISTS (7 ECTS)
This course will enable students to understand the essence of the Slovenian law. The course will present the Slovenian legal system, the various sources of law and how to find them, EU law and the relationship to national law. Students will demonstrate knowledge of basic legal concepts and institutions and the legal system of the Republic of Slovenia, regarding the content of all legal sectors, with emphasis on areas that are relevant to IT managers.
BASICS OF ECONOMY (7 ECTS)
Students will learn about market economy, supply and demand, production and costs, perfectly competitive markets, monopoly, economics of welfare, economic growth, macroeconomic policy and international trade. Students will learn how to recognize economic mechanisms in the real examples of the economy. They will understand their limitations and most important impacts of different economic policies, as well as their implications.
SALES MANAGEMENT (7 ECTS)
The main objective of this elective course is to understand the complexities of selling function and gain the knowledge of importance of selling within marketing mix and of different types of selling as well as the role of sales force. You will also gain knowledge of the use of basic concepts of sales management and sales process at a different stage of the purchasing decision-making process of consumers.
HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (7 ECTS)
Student will learn psychological bases of human work, inter-personal and work relations in group, the role of motivation at work with individuals and groups, elements of leading of individuals and groups, and functional knowledge on psychological factors of communication in contemporary organizations. They will gain ability to know how to discover and solve interpersonal disputes, and to create good atmosphere in group.
FOREIGN BUSINESS LANGUAGE 2 – BUSINESS ENGLISH 2 (7 ECTS)
Students will develop self-confidence, to increase motivation for communicating in the target language and developing the ability to form views as precondition for effective communication.They will also develop the ability of transferring acquired knowledge into new entities, thinking about language, analysing, comparing, and synthesizing linguistic and cultural phenomena.
CONSUMER BEHAVIOR (7 ECTS)
At this course you will develop a fundamental psychological and other knowledge about the consumer behaviour in terms of marketing and marketing communications and gain an understanding of basic theoretical principles, concepts and research findings to communicate with customers and programming of public relations. You will also develop the capacity for interdisciplinary treatment of consumer and commercial cooperation with various experts and ability to analyse and understand the communication process text and visual material to consumers.
STRATEGIC MARKETING (7 ECTS)
The main goal of the subject is to obtain and to analyse the necessary information for strategic decision-making which includes knowledge of the customer in strategic decision-making, analysing the developments in the marketing environment and to learn how to prepare the marketing plan as part of the business plan. After the completion of the course you will understand the marketing as a strategic part of business, understand the whole business environment, and be capable to obtain and to analyse the necessary information for strategic decision-making. In addition, you will gain the ability to answer where and how the company should compete in a business environment.
SERVICES MARKETING (7 ECTS)
At this course you will upgrade the basic marketing knowledge with basic concepts and approaches that are specific to the services marketing. At the completion of the course, you will be able to use the knowledge acquired on the basis of literature studies and practical examples for defining and analysing critical phenomena in the field of services marketing in the company. On the basis of the acquired knowledge, you will be able to link the individual components of marketing and service management to the service system as a complete whole. Knowledge gained by studying the subject enables you not only to understand the key, contemporary and comprehensive issues of the development of the service company, but also to critically evaluate the models and practice of marketing services at home and abroad.
CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (7 ECTS)
At the end of the course you will understand the nature, role and importance of corporate communication, its development, the theoretical backgrounds and key corporate communications terminology; you will recognize  the role of corporate communication in contemporary organizations, its contribution to establishing and maintaining the corporate identity, image and reputation; you will become familiar with the strategic corporate communication process; the planning, executing and evaluation of communication programs and activities and recognize various communication techniques and tools and using them in practice as well as using research and evaluation techniques and understanding of the broader social, economic and political environment and their interdependence. By acquiring and using analytical and critical thinking in practice, you will be able to understand the wider social environment and the interactions between the organization and the environment as well as able to plan strategically and evaluate strategic communications programs.
PROGRAMMING 1 (7 ECTS)
Students will get overview of programming techniques and programming languages, detailed code design techniques, foundations of the selected programming language, control structures, use of complex data types. Students will gain understanding of the program development processes. They will also understand basic elements of programming using a graphically oriented and acquire basic skills to use them. They will learn the basic techniques of data processing and they will understand and use basic elements of algorithms in program development.
PROGRAMMING 2 (7 ECTS)
Students will get overview of advanced chapters in object oriented programming (modules and class libraries, operator overloading, inheritance, polymorphism, interfaces, events …). Students will gain understanding of complex data structures (list, dictionary, stack, queue, …), object serialization an Windows forms (basics, use of common graphical controls, multi form programs, data base access, installation programs).
CAREER ORIENTATION (7 ECTS)
Through participation in various workshops, students will develop autonomy, (self)criticism, (self)reflectivity, and (self)evaluation skills and will be able to research, report, and evaluate in the context of their career development. They will develop critical and self-critical judgment skills, empathy, intercultural sensitivity, and openness to people from various cultural backgrounds and different social situations. Students will develop communication skills in the domestic and international learning environment. In one's own career planning and critical evaluation within the framework of selected problem tasks, students will develop the ability to manage time and to flexibly apply knowledge in intercultural practice.
